At See Vision Eye Institute in Wellington, Florida, we understand that vision is deeply personal, and the clarity and quality of your sight directly impacts your ability to engage with the world in the ways that matter most to you. This is why we’re thrilled to announce a new vision solution for our cataract and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) patients – the RxSightTM Light Adjustable Lens (LAL). This innovative intraocular implant (IOL) is unlike any other, as it can be tailored to fit your unique visual requirements post-surgery.

Brief Overview of RxSight™ Light Adjustable Lens for Cataract Surgery

The Light Adjustable Lens is the first of its kind – an adjustable lens whose power can be customized after cataract surgery to deliver optimal visual outcomes tailored to each patient’s unique needs and lifestyle. This personalized approach to vision correction, allows our patients to collaboratively work with us to “test” and “find” the vision range that works best for them while reducing dependence on glasses for activities like near reading, distance viewing, or both.

The Value Of LAL’s Innovation On Patient Eyecare & Quality of Life

The value of LAL’s innovation and its impact on patients’ quality of life cannot be overstated. The level of customization offered by the Light Adjustable Lens represents a fundamental shift in how we approach cataract surgery and vision correction as a whole. While traditional, fixed-power IOLs are reliable, offering cataract patients a straightforward option for standardized vision, the LAL broadens the horizon of possibilities, giving patients the choice of personalization. This translates into a vision experience that is uniquely yours

See Vision Eye Institute – Where Cutting-Edge Tech Meets Tailored Eye Care

See Vision Eye Institute (SVEI), founded by Jason J. Gorscak, MD was built with three core principles: innovation, compassion, and a deep commitment to patient-focused care. We leverage the latest advancements in technology and procedures to deliver solutions, tailored to your unique needs. His exceptional care goes beyond the tools we use, as we believe in delivering top-tier service that allows our patients to feel truly seen and understood. Our patient-focused philosophy is the cornerstone of our community, and with it, we foster lasting relationships that evolve to meet our patients’ needs.

Understanding RxSight™ Light Adjustable Lens

The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) blends material science with light activation to create an advanced IOL that is remarkably adaptable. Here’s how it works:

1. Photosensitive Material: The Light Adjustable Lens for cataract surgery is crafted from a special type of silicone material containing microscopic light-sensitive building blocks called macromers. These macromers have the unique ability to change their shape when exposed to specific wavelengths of ultraviolet (UV) light.

2. Light Delivery System: The prescription power of the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) can be adjusted through a series of comfortable, in-office UV light sessions using a Light Delivery Device (LDD). The LDD delivers gentle pulses of controlled UV light to the implanted LAL, activating the photosensitive material within the lens. This activation allows for refinement of the LAL’s power, ultimately achieving your customized prescription.

3. A Collaborative Approach: With each light treatment session, Dr. Gorscak will assess your vision and then, based on your feedback, make further adjustments to the Light Adjustable Lens. This iterative process allows for the fine-tuning of the lens to achieve your desired level of clarity.

4. Locking In Your Personalized Vision: Once you achieve the desired level of clarity, a final light treatment is performed. This treatment “locks in” the optimized lens power, making your postoperative prescription permanent.

What Are The Benefits of the Light Adjustable Lens Compared to Traditional IOL Options?

For many patients, the RxSightTM Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) offers significant benefits over fixed power intraocular lens (IOL) options:

  • Post-Operative Adjustability: Unlike traditional IOLs with fixed focusing power, the RxSightTM Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) can be adjusted after implantation. This offers a level of customization not possible with conventional IOLs.
  • Enhanced Visual Outcomes: With the ability to make post-operative adjustments, patients are more likely to achieve their desired level of vision correction, whether it’s for distance, intermediate, or near vision. This can lead to higher rates of 20/20 vision or better among Light Adjustable Lens recipients compared to traditional IOL patients.
  • Reduction in Glasses Dependence: Because of the adjustability of the Light Adjustable Lens, patients can expect to enjoy freedom from glasses for the majority of their daily activities.
  • Correction of Astigmatism: The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) can be adjusted to correct astigmatism, a common refractive error that is not corrected by basic intraocular lenses (IOLs).
  • Patient Involvement: Patients who undergo light adjustments with the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) have the opportunity to “test-drive” their vision between adjustments. This means that they can experience their vision at different stages of adjustment and provide feedback to us on how well they are seeing.
  • Advanced Technology: By harnessing the properties of photosensitive materials and UV light, the LAL offers a unique and advanced solution for customizable vision correction, demonstrating the continuous evolution of lens technology in ophthalmology.
  • Long-Term Stability: Once the final adjustment has been made and the lens power is locked in, the LAL provides stable and long-lasting visual outcomes.

Hear From Dr. Gorscak: Our Leading Ophthalmologist At See Vision Eye Institute

“My journey began at Johns Hopkins University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering. I went on to study at the University of Miami School of Medicine before completing my ophthalmology residency at New Jersey’s University of Medicine and Dentistry. Since 2008, I’ve been serving the Florida community with a patient-first philosophy. In 2024, I opened See Vision Eye Institute because I wanted to have the freedom to offer my patients the latest advancements in ophthalmic technology.”

The Significance Of RxSight™ at See Vision Eye Institute

“I recognize the RxSightTM Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) for the transformative impact it has on my patients’ quality of life. By offering LAL technology at See Vision Eye Institute, I can continue to push the envelope in delivering the best in personalized care.”

1. How Does LAL Work?

“The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is made of a special photosensitive material that changes shape and power in response to ultraviolet (UV) light. The light treatments are delivered by the RxSight® Light Delivery Device (LDD®) in our office. These enhancements are made to the lens after it has been implanted in your eye and you have healed from surgery.”

2. Who is the LAL designed for?

“I find most cataract patients are candidates for the Light Adjustable Lens. It can be an ideal option for patients who have undergone previous refractive surgery like LASIK, have certain conditions that prevent them from being a candidate for multifocal IOLs, or wish to have monovision after surgery.”

3. What Makes The LAL Unique?

“The RxSightTM Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is the only intraocular lens implant that allows patients to test-drive their vision before locking in the results. This unique feature allows the fine-tuning of vision after surgery, providing patients with the highest standard of personalized eye care.”

4. How Long Does The Light Adjustable Lens Last?

“The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) is a permanent solution, offering a lifetime of freedom and control over your vision.”

5. How Do The Light Adjustments Work, and How Frequently Are They Done?

“The Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) uses in-office light treatments to activate microscopic components within the lens. This activation can make subtle changes in the lens power, and allow me to fine-tune your vision in a series of painless sessions.

The number of light adjustment sessions you’ll need typically ranges between 1 to 3, depending on your individual needs and the complexity of your vision correction. Each session usually lasts around 40-120 seconds (with an average of 90 seconds) and sessions are spaced out by approximately 3 days.”

6. Are Sunglasses Needed After LAL?

“Yes, UV-protected glasses should be worn outdoors until the final lock in enhancement. These glasses protect the Light Adjustable Lens from UV light other than the LDD used to optimize your vision. Additionally, the LAL itself offers an additional layer of protection from incidental UV exposure called ActivShield™. This layer is built into the LAL to help protect the lens until treatments are complete.”
